About Rebecca
During my long and happy career as a civil litigator, I began mediating cases in 2012 and found a second calling. I’ve helped settle many cases in a variety of legal specialties including insurance coverage, bad faith, subrogation, real estate, landlord tenant, employment, personal injury, lemon law and other civil disputes. I’ve undergone hundreds of hours of formal training in dispute resolution, and continue to volunteer my time as a court-appointed Judge Pro Tem for the San Francisco, Alameda County and Marin Superior Court MSC programs, the unlawful detainer MSC calendar and community mediation. I am a panel mediator for the Bar Association of San Francisco and have been Early Neutral Evaluator/Mediator for the Northern District of California since 2019.
My love of the law and legal stories started early. As a toddler, I would ask my parents to “tell me a case” rather than read me a bedtime story. Luckily, my parents were law professors who would spin fascinating stories of potential liability to an unforeseeable plaintiff, the origins of the Miranda warning, or under what circumstances jurors could be struck from juries.
I have loved the law, legal stories the idea of being a lawyer since then. After graduating from Stanford Law School, my 20-year legal career focused on representing individuals and businesses in employment matter, insurance coverage disputes and ERISA claims. This includes business coverage disputes as well as employer-provided and private health, property, life, disability, and long-term care insurance.
Before founding the Grey Law Firm, PC in 2012, I worked for the San Francisco Superior Court as a Legal Research Attorney, for a well known employment litigation firm on behalf of plaintiffs and then joined a boutique insurance coverage firm where I practiced for 14 years.
I have been a neutral and mediator since 2012. I have served as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Francisco Superior Court where I am assigned to the Mandatory Settlement Conference calendar in a wide range of civil disputes as well as unlawful detainer cases. I am a Settlement Officer for the Superior Courts of Marin, Alameda and Contra Costa counties. In addition to my neutral work, I am a Discovery Department Officer.
I completed the 40 hour Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution program in 2014, as well as multiple alternative dispute resolution trainings by the San Francisco Superior Court, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Northern District’s ENE/Mediation programs and countless other mediation training providers. I completed the 40 hour training as a community mediator for Community Boards as well as 40 hour Arbitration Certificate training by Ron Kelly.
I have served on the clinical faculty of Stanford Law School’s Trial Advocacy Program since 2007.
I am a fourth generation San Franciscan, a scuba diver, a mom and a two-time cancer survivor. When I’m not mediating cases, you will find me exploring the Bay Area with my dog Shuggie and playing anywhere in or near the water.
